Global pandemics do more to show the deficiency in internet access than almost everything in the past few decades. With individual record records working from home, problems with slow internet, spotty connections, and longer network hardware becomes clearer than before.
However, sometimes this problem is not your service provider or speed of your router. Instead, it can be a range of your router, with respect to the size of your home. The router is perfectly positioned to provide solid access to a smart TV living room or the Alexa kitchen table may not reach well in the office, bedroom, or study.
There are several options to expand your wi-fi range, including Wi-Fi Extender and Powerline Kit. Understanding the difference between the two can help you choose the best option.
Wi-Fi extender is more famous than two options. Wireless extender expands the reach of your router by taking the signal broadcasting and acting as a repeater.
For the best results, you want to put an extender between the router and the area you want to reach with Wi-Fi. The Extender RebroadCast signal receives with full strength, so the signal he receives is what will be transmitted. Therefore, it is important to ensure you receive a strong signal from the router (through waveforms).
Powerline kit, on the other hand, use your home electrical cable, instead of relying on wireless signals. Simply connect the sender to your router and plug it into an electrical outlet, then install the receiver device to the outlet in the part of your house where you have internet spots. The advantage of the powerline system is that it is not subject to a type of disorder that can inhibit the wi-fi signal, while still giving speeds of up to 2 Gbps.
One potential loss for powerline kits is their reach. Ideally, the sending device and reception must be within a few hundred feet with each other. While it might look like a lot of space, depending on how your home is connected, you might have fewer space to save than you think.
The potential for other losses of powerline kits is that they do not have wireless access at the end point. Instead, they provide an ethernet port that you can use to plug your computer. Depending on whether you have a desktop or laptop – and how old is your laptop – this is possible or maybe not a problem.
As a guide Tom shows, the best solution is to combine both, use powerline to send connectivity to your range of your home, and then plug in the wireless base station to the Ethernet port provided to broadcast the nearest device.
While Ethernet Extender and Powerline Kit provides two different ways to do the same thing, there is actually no “better” choice between the two. Instead, they are a complementary method for expanding internet reach in your home.
